Will I Get It Done?

One of my favorite barristas is having a baby in a few weeks. My friend Sherry and I are invited to her shower, which is Friday. I threw yarn and needles into my suitcase and started a sweater while we were in Mazatlan.

What better place for knitting and morning coffee?

Panting a little, but getting there. I'm doing the sleeves together, my second skein of yarn seemed to have a subtle difference in color, so I thought if wouldn't be as noticeable. So far I can't see a difference, I think it was how it was wound. The yarn is so old the labels are gone. I bet it's over 20 years old.
The yarn is a pompadour, usually I don't mind working with it, but this one likes to twist, the air is dry and the yarn sticks to my dry fingers. I'll be glad to be finished.

I'm giving her one of my hankie bonnets and some booties from my stash, too. Hopefully I'll get some good pictures when the little girl is born.

Off and On the Needles

I love to use the bits of leftover sock and baby yarn to make baby socks.  Just finished these;

I made a pair of socks for myself from this yarn.  It's Serenity Sock Yarn by Deborah Norville.  A combo of wool, bamboo and nylon.  I love working with this yarn!

This is from baby yarn by Bernat-acrylic.  Really works up cute.
Just cast on a baby sweater:

This pattern book was printed in 1968.  My mom made a sweater and blanket from this book for my oldest son who was born in 1969.
In the 80's, I worked at a small yarn shop here in Manhattan.  She paid us with barter rather than with wages so for a while I had a ton of yarn.  So this yarn is 30 years old!

I'm ready to do some stash busting, so we'll see how much I get done, I have five 1-ounce skeins,  I told Stan this morning that it was time to use this stuff, it had aged long enough!

Almost Didn't Make It!

Just finished a baby sweater for a former co-worker.  I just grabbed a boy-looking skein of yarn out of my stash, thinking there was enough.  Well, not quite.  About 12" not quite!

I do have another skein of the same color and dye lot, but it's wrapped up in another project.  I managed to eke another foot or so from the second skein and hope there is enough left to finish the shawl I'm making.  Should be.

It's acrylic and really doesn't need blocking but I thought my stitching was uneven so I doused and pinned.

It's supposed to be a 5 hour sweater, but you have to actually work on it in order to get it done in that time, LOL!  Hope the new mommy like this!

Trees

I spent some time on my deck this afternoon. It hasn't been too hot, so a late afternoon iced coffee and knitting session is a lovely experience. I'm almost finished with Gram's socks. Just finishing the ribbing on one, then I just have to turn the heel and knit up the leg on the other.

I did finally sew buttons on a baby sweater, though. This is a pattern I downloaded from Ravelry. No special goal-it went in to my gift stash for future babies.

The buttons aren't a perfect match-better than the picture-but not bad. I used the gray from the trim to sew them on to direct attention away from the not-quite-perfect color. I scoured Bozeman and these are the closest I could come.

I think this sweater will be one I make often. It's done in a bulky yarn so it goes pretty fast and it turns out pretty cute if I say so myself!

I love sitting under the trees. The birds serenade me nonstop and I love the shadows the sun shining through the leaves makes.

Add my own homemade mocha blended coffee and it was a perfect afternoon. Too short, but perfect.
